“If you have God, you will want for nothing.”
~~~~ Teresa of Avila
Life, to the one that does not know God, is empty, meaningless and lacks purpose. Our journey’s path is often filled with confusion, endless searching to fill the void, isolation and unanswered questions if we have not accepted Him. In a true relationship with God, one will find true friendship, there is always someone to call at any time and He will always be there for us in the good and the bad times and will carry us through. He will never leave us. Through seeking Him and spending time with Him, by nurturing and cultivating intimacy with Him; getting to know Him, His ways, His thoughts, His voice and His word, are we able to experience the fullness of His love and have a divine, romantic relationship with Him that is unlike anything in our natural life.
I have learned that setting aside time early in the morning works best for me. I spend this time outdoors, if possible in nature a place of quiet solitude and serenity, to commune and reflect upon Him and all the many blessings in my life and all the goodness of His character that flows so abundantly. This special time is way before my household becomes aroused with the bustle of to-do lists and distractions for the day, before my attention is demanded elsewhere and I solely concentrate on Father and what He desires to speak to me through His word or whatever form of communication.
A certain prayer from Teresa of Avila comes to mind when I intentionally shut out everything and everyone else for this special time alone with God, the prayer says,
“Let nothing disturb this moment with You, Oh Lord.”
Prayer and meditation is when we dismiss all outward stimulation and thoughts and allow our spirit to reflect and contemplate and be lifted up into a higher level of truth and light that comes from God. Our spirits connect with God and what we experience is beyond the natural, physical realm, defying all intellect and logic. Beyond the five senses, into a divine dimension where I have experienced intense euphoria and knowledge that I know without a sliver of doubt that God is for real and very much alive today.
Father desires and craves to reveal Himself to all of His children in a very real way. Just talking about Him, or reading about Him and studying Him, trying to dissect Him and intellectually understand Him is not what I am referring to here. We can’t possibly intellectually know God, we may know about Him, but true intimacy, true relationship is when we completely surrender and lose ourselves, does He find us. We have to lay down our pre-conceived ideas of who we think He is and who He isn’t, or what we think He can do and what we think He can’t do and acquiesce, submitting our will to His will and say, “ Here I am, reveal Yourself to me!” and He will! He is faithful like that.
As we walk through life on this incredible journey, a true intimate relationship with God is a choice. Its only requirement is our accepting His gift; His grace and forgiveness. We surrender the old and trust that all things are new. Life is a continuing path of changes; we grow, we evolve, we mature as we walk through new phases of our lives. There is only one thing that never changes and that is God! Accepting and acknowledging God is the wisest of all decisions we can make. Once you have chosen Him, He is everything upon which all other things revolve.
“Learn to see God in the details of your life, for He is everywhere.”
~~~ Teresa of Avila
We all go through hard, difficult times, painful circumstances, betrayals and disappointments, losses and heart breaks; these are all part of living in a fallen imperfect world, however we also have the amazing opportunity to enjoy great love, joy, peace, celebrations, comfort, hope and luxuries. We have the ability to serve others and give back what we have been greatly given. There is remarkable beauty and satisfaction in reaching out to others and lending a helping hand to those in need. We simply have to open our eyes, take the blinders off, look around and see our brothers and sisters. Open our ears, can you hear their cry for help as they stumble around in the darkness, unplug our ears and hear what they are really saying. Listen with our hearts, open it up to receive the love that they have to give. God’s creation is beautiful, life is beautiful and ready to be enjoyed, and it really is up to us how we choose to perceive it, how we choose to receive it and how we choose to live it.
God is present for us all the time, good and bad. He is not only there for us in times of crisis, but always! My prayer is that we all may experience the great spiritual awakening that is coming across this universe and that we may become so uncomfortable in our little nest that has consisted of our selfish, “me, me, me” attitudes and complacent ways and that we would be stirred to leap out into new territory and seek a deeper, more meaningful, real, intimate relationship with Father. I am hungry, I am starving for more of Him and I will not rest till my hunger is quenched. May He reveal Himself to those of us that hunger and thirst for more of Him and may we seek Him and find Him in the secret, holy places of our spirit. May we realize just how much He loves each and every one of us; each of us is unique and is made up of our own individual concoction of DNA. He is not angry and mad at us, He loves us and delights in us, He finds great pleasure in us, we are the “apple of His eye” (Psalm 17:8).
“May the God of hope fill you with all the joy and peace as you trust Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” ~~~ Romans 5:13
Our life is an incredible gift, we are on this magnificent journey together, and it is filled with hope, beauty and love. There is so much greatness ahead for us, it ain’t over yet ~~~ the very best is yet to come!
