Contentment In The Midst Of Detours

roadblock“Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.” ~~~~~~ Galatians 5:25

This verse really leapt from the page at me this morning. It encouraged me to slow down, take a deep breath, clear my mind, not jumping ahead, over analyzing and coming to conclusions without filtering all the facts. It is about keeping “in step with the Spirit”, moving and living in line with Him. We need to measure our thoughts, our moments in a slow, steady and peaceful way. God’s strength is available one day at a time and we need to quit rushing ahead of the Holy Spirit doing it our way and on our time schedule. Contentment comes from many great and tiny acceptances in our life. Many times, Father God allows interruptions and delays and detours in our lives to make us slow down.

I once read where Joni Eareckson said, “Contentment is not the fulfillment of what you want, but the realization of how much you already have. It is realizing that God has already given you everything you need for this present moment of happiness and peace.”

When we are in pain and hurting, life is lived in very small steps. The grace and sufficiency of Jesus is more than enough to meet the needs of our lifetime, but our lives can only be lived one day, one hour, one minute, one moment at a time. God supplied the daily needs of the children of Israel in the desert by giving fresh manna from Heaven each morning; He still supplies the needs of His children at the breaking dawn of each day for us.

“God’s loyal love never runs out, His merciful love never dries up. His love is created new every morning, for great is Your faithfulness, Oh LORD, You are my portion, therefore I will wait upon You.”  ~~~~ Lamentations 3:22 &23

Be thankful today for the people in your life that you may consider an interruption or distraction, they are here for a reason, all part of God’s timing and planning. Open your eyes; so that you may see with clarity the one’s in need, open your ears; so that you may hear someone’s cry for help, open your heart; to be moved with compassion, open your mind; so that God can expand your boundaries. We are here now, this very moment “for such a time as this“. May you walk in peace and love and slow down and enjoy the journey, stopping to smell the roses along the way and appreciate the beauty right before you!
